I’m a collector. I don’t know whether it’s an inherited trait or socialized response, but I’m definitely part of a long line of collectors. My grandmother, Virginia Ray, who FoundRae is partly named after, collected everything. Her highlights were dolls, quilts, carnival glass, and milk glass – each thoughtfully garnered and carefully kept.

When you build a life around the things you love, you begin to look at objects differently. Their meaning transcends the practical, daily use as understanding sets in that the stories they tell will live beyond your lifetime.

The medallions worn to commemorate a personal milestone may one day be the encouragement a daughter holds while navigating similar challenges. The perfume bottle on the vanity may become the scent of nostalgia shared by your loved ones. The plates used for Sunday dinners may become the first furnishings of a new home. In their own way, each object tells the story of where you’ve been and how you’ve gotten there.

These are my treasured pieces: the objects I’ve gathered, the jewelry I’ve garnered, the collections that will one day carry my own stories.
