Whenever I look at a diamond, I think of the ancient Greek word from which it originated: Adamas or Adamant. Philosophers spoke about this legendary stone — unyielding in form, it was revered as invincible. Thousands of years later, in English, people began to use the word in reference to something that cannot be altered. For example, if someone is “adamant,” they are as unyielding as the mythical stone. There is something strong and mighty in the word and the unconquerable stone that it describes.
Every design in our United in Love collection is a celebration, commemoration, and indication of your commitment to love’s lasting bond. Whether you solidify your commitment with a ring or medallion, we’ve taken thoughtful consideration of the carat, cut, color, and clarity of each diamond selected to ensure your unbreakable bond is commemorated with a stone equally invincible.
The diamonds in our United in Love collection are natural stones of the highest quality and ethical sourcing and, as such, each is accompanied by a grading report from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the leading independent authority on diamonds. The GIA certificate details the individual attributes of each stone, commonly known as the 4Cs: carat weight, cut, color, and clarity. The unique GIA report number is laser-inscribed on the girdle of the diamond, so each one can be easily authenticated and identified. With this certification, you will know with confidence what a unique treasure your diamond is.
CARAT
The carat weight offerings for our United in Love collection depend upon the particular jewelry design; we are concerned with the harmony of proportion and the meaning conveyed by each creation. In many cases, a range of carat weights is available for you to choose from according to your personal taste and individual love story.
CUT
Diamond cutting is the artform that turns a rough stone into a work of beauty, facet by facet. The quality of the cut is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing a diamond, as a diamond’s cut has a direct impact on its brilliance and fire—both terms that describe how the cut stone returns light to the eye of the beholder.
For our United in Love collection, we have selected beautiful round, oval, cushion, and pear cuts for each respective jewelry design. We find these to be the most classic and romantic diamond cuts and have thoughtfully paired each with a design to ensure your lasting bond of love is tangibly commemorated.
COLOR
Like all natural gemstones, diamonds are available in an extraordinary variety of colors. However, white diamonds have remained the most distinguishable choice for celebrating acts of commitment. GIA has determined five categories for white diamond color grades: colorless (D, E, and F); near colorless (G, H, I, and J); faint (K-M); very light (N-R); and light (S-Z). At FoundRae, we have chosen diamonds with the GIA-grade colors G and H and faint to no fluorescence.
CLARITY
The final component to consider when choosing a diamond is its clarity. Because each diamond is created by natural processes, no two diamonds are exactly alike: each has its own defining clarity characteristics. A stone’s clarity grade is based on how easily these characteristics can be seen when the diamond is examined, face-up, under 10× magnification. We have chosen stones with VS1 to VS2 clarity, which are varying degrees of “Very Slightly Included.” All diamonds in this clarity range are “eye-clean,” meaning that the clarity characteristics are so few, or so tiny, that they cannot be discerned by looking at the stone with the naked eye — they are only visible if you look at the diamond under a jeweler’s magnifying loupe.
